This trio embarked on an ambitious journey to resurrect a vintage Kuwahara road bicycle, reimagining it with a suite of modern components. The project’s core objective? Throughout their three-week program, CABS students embrace a rigorous schedule, attending classes five days a week and completing nightly reading assignments. “The CABS program is designed to immerse students completely in the art of bicycle mechanics,” states Instructor Brian Hahn. “From the basics to hands-on practice, we aim to provide the foundational skills needed build confidence and accomplished bicycle mechanics.”
For Marcel, Anthony, and Bill, the creative process in the group project extended beyond basic repairs. They selected new derailleurs, brake levers, and shifters that would enhance the Kuwahara’s performance while maintaining its vintage aesthetic. The transformation truly shone in their custom wheel-building project. Here, they selected rims, hubs, and calculated spoke lengths to create properly laced and trued wheels, a testament to their newfound skills and teamwork.
