Spoke Tension Meter Calibration
Whether you are using a spoke tension meter (tensiometer) from Park Tool, Hozan Digital, DT Swiss or any of the lesser known models offered by online vendors, chances are your tensiometer is not providing accurate readings.
Age, environment, and impact can take your spoke tension meter out of adjustment. This is when you should verify and calibrate your tensiometer.
- Spoke Tension Meters should undergo regular calibration to ensure accurate readings, as the readings can drift over time due to wear and tear.
- Some new tension meters may not be calibrated correctly from the factory.
- Spoke tension charts that come with tension meters may not account for variations in steel manufacturers and grades. For instance, a 14G (2mm) silver DT Champion spoke will yield a different tension reading compared to a 14G (2mm) silver Pillar PSR14.
- The colour of the spokes can impact the tension reading accuracy. Since the tension reading is partly dependent on the spoke thickness, a white spoke with a thicker paint coat will provide a different tension reading from a black spoke. If you are building with a specific colour spoke, include a spoke with your tensiometer when you ship it for calibration.
CABS offers Spoke Tension Meter Calibration in two levels.
Level One
Tensiometer Calibration
